Why people book Umrah without flights?

Most of our land-only bookings come from four kinds of travellers, and we hear the same reasons every season.

You already have your flight: Plenty of people book with Aeroplan points, catch a seat sale, or fly on staff or family benefits. Paying for a flight twice makes no sense. Bring your own ticket and we handle everything on the ground.

You're already overseas: This is the most common one. You're spending three weeks with family in Karachi, Lahore, Cairo or Dubai, and you want to do Umrah while you're in that part of the world. Flying from Canada is irrelevant to you. A land-only package fits.

Your group is flying from different cities: Half the family is in Toronto, half in Calgary, and one cousin is coming from London. Everyone sorts out their own flight, and we put you in the same hotels on the same dates.

Your dates aren't fixed yet. Some people want to lock in a hotel near the Haram before prices climb, then watch airfares for a few weeks. Booking the land portion first is a reasonable way to do that.

What's included in our land-only Umrah packages and what isn't?

We'd rather be blunt about this than have you find out at the airport.

Included in every land-only package:

• Hotel in Makkah and Madinah, registered on Nusuk Masar
• Ground transport: airport pickup, Jeddah or Madinah to your hotel, and the Makkah–Madinah transfer
• Umrah visa processing and document support
• Ziyarat (holy site visits) in both cities
• Support line while you're travelling

Not included:

• Your international flight, in either direction
• Meals, unless the specific package says otherwise
• Meningococcal ACWY vaccination (you arrange this in Canada — most pharmacies do it)
• Travel insurance
• Personal spending

The part most people get wrong

Here's what changed, and it's the reason "without flight" no longer means "do it yourself."

Since June 2025, Saudi Arabia is not issuing an Umrah visa unless your hotel booking is confirmed on the Nusuk Masar platform. Ground transport has to be logged in the system too. The bookings generate a reference number that gets tied to your visa application. No confirmed booking, no visa.

That trips people up, because the obvious move. Book a Makkah hotel on a regular travel site, then apply for the visa yourself — often fails. The hotel has to be licensed and registered on Nusuk Masar. Plenty of hotels listed on the big booking sites aren't set up in that system, and the visa request stalls even though the room is paid for.

So a land-only package now does more work than it used to. You keep control of your flight. We make sure the hotel and transport side is registered properly so the visa actually goes through.

The Government of Canada gives the same advice. Canadian pilgrims should use the official Nusuk platform or a licensed travel provider connected to Saudi systems.

Book your flight before your visa, not after

Saudi Umrah visa rules include a limit on how long you have to enter the Kingdom after the visa is issued. That window has been tightened in recent seasons. If you apply too far ahead of your travel dates, the visa can lapse before you fly, and you've paid for nothing.

For comparison, our flight-inclusive Umrah package from Canada starts at CAD $1,300 out of Toronto. The gap is roughly what a return ticket to Jeddah costs. If you can beat that on points or a seat sale, land-only is the cheaper route. If you can't, the bundled package usually wins, because we book flights on group contracts.

Booking during Ramadan

Land-only demand climbs sharply in Ramadan, especially for the last ten nights, and hotel space near the Haram sells out months ahead. TICO registration matters more than most people realise. Ontario law requires travel businesses selling to Ontario residents to register, and registered sellers pay into the Travel Industry Compensation Fund.
