What does "non-shifting" actually mean?

Non-shifting means your Makkah hotel room is held for you from the day you arrive to the day you fly home. You keep the key through the Mina and Arafah days. Nothing gets packed up. Nothing gets moved.

That is the whole idea, and it is simpler than most agencies make it sound. On a shifting package, you check out of your Makkah hotel around the 7th or 8th of Dhul Hijjah. Your group is moved to Aziziyah, a residential area about 4 to 5 kilometres from the Haram. You leave your big luggage there, go into the Mina tents, and after Hajj you may be moved again. Sometimes back to Aziziyah, sometimes to a different hotel. That is two or three moves inside one trip.

On a non-shifting package, none of that happens. Your room in Makkah is paid for and held even on the nights you are sleeping in a Mina tent. When Hajj ends, you walk back into the same room, with the same bag under the same bed.

This is also why some agencies call it a "no-Aziziyah" package. Same thing, different name.

Why do pilgrims pay more to avoid moving?

Because a hotel room near the Haram sits empty for five nights and somebody still has to pay for it. That empty room is the entire price difference between the two package types.

Whether it is worth it comes down to four things:

Your luggage: On shifting packages you carry a small bag into Mina and leave the rest behind. Pilgrims routinely pack the wrong bag — chargers in one, medication in the other. On non-shifting, everything is in one place and you can go back for it.

Your rest: Mina washroom and shower facilities are basic and shared by very large numbers of people. With a Makkah room still open to you, you have somewhere to shower and lie down properly during the busiest days of your life.

Your parents: Two hotel moves with luggage, in 40-degree heat, in enormous crowds, is hard on anyone over 65. It is harder on someone with a knee replacement or a heart condition.

Your time at the Haram: You stay near the Haram before and after Hajj instead of relying on shuttle buses from Aziziyah that get stuck in traffic during the busiest week of the year.

What happens day by day, 8 to 13 Dhul Hijjah?

Here is what your five Hajj days look like on a non-shifting package. The point of this table is to show you exactly when your Makkah room is being held for you.

How many nights should you book?

This is the question most Canadian pilgrims get wrong, and it is usually a work problem rather than a religious one.

7 nights is the short option: You land close to the Hajj days, perform the rites, and fly home. It uses the least vacation time. It is also the most tiring, because there is no rest period on either side and jet lag from Canada is real — an eight to nine hour time difference does not clear in one day.

21 nights is the middle ground and the one we book most often. You get time in Madinah, days in Makkah to settle in and perform Umrah, then Hajj, then a few quiet days afterwards.

27 and 30 nights give you the fullest journey, with a long Madinah stay and unhurried days at the Haram. Interestingly, our 30-night package is our lowest-priced non-shifting option, because of how the flight and hotel contracts fall. If you can get the time off work, look at it seriously.

Hajj 2027 falls in mid-May. That is before most summer shutdowns and it is a busy period in many workplaces. Book your leave with your employer as early as you can, and remember that a 21-night package needs roughly four weeks off once travel days are counted.

Is a non-shifting package better for elderly parents?

Yes, in most cases, and this is the single most common reason Canadian families call us about non-shifting.

The reason is not comfort. It is the moves themselves. Every hotel change during Hajj means packing, waiting in a lobby, boarding a coach in the heat, waiting again at the next check-in desk, then finding the room. Do that two or three times inside a week and a fit 40-year-old is drained. Someone in their seventies can end up unwell before Arafah even begins.

A non-shifting package removes those transfers completely. It also gives your parents somewhere private to rest during the Mina days rather than only a shared tent.

If you are travelling with someone who uses a wheelchair, has diabetes, has heart or kidney conditions, or cannot walk long distances, tell us when you call. Tent location, hotel choice and Jamarat access all need to be planned around it. Do not leave it to the airport.

How does Hajj booking from Canada actually work?

Hajj for Canadian pilgrims runs through Nusuk, the official platform of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. You cannot get a Hajj visa by applying to an embassy on your own. Canada also has a limited annual quota, which is why seats run out.

The steps:

Register on Nusuk with your Canadian passport, well before packages open.
Pick a package from an authorised operator.
Pay and confirm. Your Hajj visa is issued through the platform once your booking is confirmed — there is no separate visa application to file.
Get your vaccinations and see a travel clinic four to six weeks before you fly.
Attend a manasik session so you know the rites before you land, not while you are standing in Mina.

When is Hajj 2027?

Hajj 2027 is expected in mid-May 2027. Dhul Hijjah 1448 AH should begin around 7 or 8 May 2027 on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The main Hajj days, 8 to 13 Dhul Hijjah, are expected to fall from about 14 to 18 May 2027, with the Day of Arafah around 15 May and Eid al-Adha around 16 May.
All of these dates are astronomical estimates. The Saudi moon-sighting committee confirms them shortly beforehand, and they can move by a day. Book flights and leave with that one-day margin in mind.

What should you sort out before you book?

Passport valid for at least six months past your travel date, and enough blank pages
