How much does Umrah cost from Calgary?
A 5-night three-star Umrah package from Calgary starts at CAD $1,180 per person. A 7-night three-star package is $1,210, and 10 nights in a three-star hotel is $1,345. If you want to be closer to the Haram with better rooms, four-star packages run from $1,462 to $1,640, and five-star packages range from $1,648 to $1,875.
Prices are per person based on quad sharing. A room shared between two people costs more per head than a room shared between four, so a family of four travelling together will always get better value than a couple.
Here is what actually moves the price up or down:
- Time of year: Ramadan and the last ten nights are the most expensive weeks of the year. December works well for Calgary families because of school holidays, but hotel rates climb too. Late September, October, and early November are the quietest and cheapest.
- Distance from the Haram: A hotel 800 meters from the Haram can cost half of one at 150 meters. For elderly parents or young children, paying more to be close is usually worth it. You will be walking that route five times a day.
- Room sharing: Quad, triple, double, and single occupancy each carry a different rate.
- How early you book: Booking three to four months ahead usually saves several hundred dollars per person compared to booking six weeks out.
- Flight routing: Calgary has no direct service to Jeddah or Madinah, so the airline and connection you choose changes the cost noticeably.
What is included in a Calgary Umrah package?
Every Qiblatain package from Calgary includes:
- Saudi Umrah e-visa processing
- Hotel accommodation in Makkah, walking distance from Masjid al-Haram
- Hotel accommodation in Madinah, near Masjid an-Nabawi
- Air-conditioned transport between Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah
- Airport pickup and drop-off in Saudi Arabia
- Daily breakfast at your hotel
- Ziyarat tours of the historic sites in both cities
- A guide who speaks English and Urdu
- 24/7 support line while you are travelling
Not included:
- International flights from Calgary
- Meningococcal ACWY vaccination
- Travel and medical insurance
- Lunch and dinner
- Personal shopping, laundry, and tips
We tell you this upfront because too many pilgrims find out at the airport that something they assumed was covered is not. Ask for the written inclusion list before you pay a deposit.
Flying to Saudi Arabia from Calgary
There are no direct flights from Calgary International (YYC) to Jeddah or Madinah. Every route connects at least once. Most Calgary pilgrims fly one of these ways:
- Through Toronto (YYZ): A domestic hop, then a long-haul flight to Jeddah. Simple, and often the cheapest.
- Through a European hub: London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or Paris. Good if you want a shorter total flying time.
- Through a Gulf or Turkish hub: Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Istanbul. Usually the most comfortable, sometimes the priciest.
Total travel time from Calgary is generally 20 to 26 hours door to door depending on your layover.
Two things worth planning for: First, if you connect through Toronto on a separate ticket, your bags may not check through. You would collect and recheck them yourself. Ask before you book. Second, fly into Jeddah and out of Madinah rather than backtracking. It saves you a four-hour bus ride at the end of a tiring trip.
Landing in Madinah first is a good choice for older parents. You get a calmer city to recover from jet lag before the intensity of Makkah.
Do I need a visa for Umrah from Canada?
Yes. You need a Saudi Umrah visa, and we handle the application as part of your package.
Canadian passport holders and permanent residents living in Canada are both eligible. What you need to provide:
- A passport valid for at least six months from your departure date
- A recent passport-sized photo with a white background
- Proof of your meningococcal ACWY vaccination
- Your confirmed hotel and flight details, which we supply
Children need their own visa and their own vaccination record. If you are a permanent resident rather than a citizen, bring your PR card as well.
Approval usually comes through in a few business days, but leave yourself three to four weeks of buffer. Passport renewals and vaccination appointments in Calgary are the two things that most often delay a trip, not the visa itself.
Saudi rules change from time to time. We check the current requirements against your specific passport before we file anything.
When is the best time for Umrah from Calgary?
November to February is the sweet spot. Makkah and Madinah sit between 20°C and 28°C, which is a relief compared to the 45°C summer heat. Calgary's Christmas and February school breaks fall in this window, so families can travel without pulling children out of class.
Ramadan carries the greatest reward and the greatest crowds. Umrah in Ramadan is described in hadith as equal in reward to Hajj. It is also the busiest and most expensive time, especially the last ten nights. If you are going during Ramadan, book six to eight months out.
Late September to early November is the quietest and cheapest stretch. Good for a first Umrah when you want space to move and time to pray without pressure.
Avoid the weeks immediately before and after Hajj. Umrah visas are restricted during Hajj season and the cities are at capacity.
If you would rather leave from another Canadian city, we provides the same packages nationwide. See our full range of Umrah package from Canada options, or our Ottawa Umrah Packages if you have family flying from there.
Choosing the right package for your situation
First-time pilgrims: Take 7 nights, not 5. Five nights sounds efficient but you will spend the first two fighting jet lag and the last one packing. Choose a hotel within 300 metres of the Haram and travel with a guided group so someone is showing you each step of tawaf and sa'i rather than you reading it off your phone.
Travelling with elderly parents: Book the closest hotel you can afford, even if it means a shorter trip. The walk from a budget hotel to the Haram is not long on paper, but at 2 a.m. after Tahajjud, with a parent who has bad knees, it is a different distance. Tell us in advance if a wheelchair is needed. We arrange this and it must be booked ahead, not on the day.
Families with young children: Ten nights over the winter break, quad occupancy, and a hotel with a kettle and a fridge in the room. Small children need snacks and warm milk at odd hours. A ground-floor or low-floor room saves you long elevator waits during peak prayer times.
Women travelling without a mahram: Saudi Arabia now permits women to perform Umrah without a male guardian. Because these rules have shifted more than once, we confirm the current position with the Saudi authorities before we file your visa, so there are no surprises at the airport.
Going on a tight budget: Take 5 nights, a three-star hotel, quad sharing, and travel in October. That is the cheapest honest combination. Anyone quoting you far below CAD $1,000 for a full package is usually leaving something out.

Frequently asked questions
How much is Umrah from Calgary?
Umrah packages from Calgary start at CAD $1,180 per person for 5 nights in a three-star hotel and reach about CAD $1,875 for 10 nights in a five-star hotel. Flights from Calgary are quoted separately. Most families budget $2,500 to $3,500 per person all in.
Are there direct flights from Calgary to Saudi Arabia?
No. There are no direct flights from Calgary International Airport to Jeddah or Madinah. All routes connect, most commonly through Toronto, a European hub such as London or Frankfurt, or a Gulf hub such as Doha or Dubai. Expect 20 to 26 hours of total travel time.
How long does it take to get an Umrah visa from Canada?
Saudi Umrah visas are usually approved within a few business days once your documents are complete. Apply at least three to four weeks before departure so there is room for passport or vaccination delays.
What vaccinations do I need for Umrah?
Saudi Arabia requires proof of the meningococcal ACWY vaccine, given at least ten days before you arrive. You can get it at most Calgary pharmacies and travel clinics. Bring the printed certificate. The visa application will not go through without it.
Can women perform Umrah from Canada without a mahram?
Yes. Saudi Arabia now permits women to perform Umrah without a male guardian. Because these rules have changed before, we confirm the current requirement before filing your visa.
How many days do I need for Umrah?
Seven nights is the comfortable minimum for a first Umrah roughly four nights in Makkah and three in Madinah. Five nights is possible if you are experienced and travelling light. Ten nights gives you room to perform Umrah more than once and visit the ziyarat sites without rushing.
Can I book an Umrah package without flights?
Yes. If you have air miles, a companion pass, or you are already travelling in the region, we offer land-only packages covering visa, hotels, and transport.
Is the package price per person or for the whole family?
Per person, based on shared occupancy. A quad room splits four ways and is the most economical option for a family.
Do you arrange wheelchair assistance?
Yes, at the airports and at the Haram. Tell us when you book, it must be arranged in advance, not on the day of travel.
Is my money protected?
Yes. Qiblatain operates under Harmain Travel Limited, TICO registration 50018801, which means your payment is protected under Ontario's travel industry regulations.
