How Much Does Umrah Cost from Montreal?
A realistic all-in budget for one person leaving Montreal is CAD $2,000 to $2,800. That's the package price plus the things people forget.

Montreal usually costs a little more than Toronto because there's less competition on the YUL routes. It costs less than Vancouver because the flying distance is shorter.
Prices climb during Ramadan, the winter school break, and the two Eids. Book five or six months out and you'll pay noticeably less.
Flights from Montreal to Makkah and Madinah
No airline flies non-stop from Montreal to Saudi Arabia. Every route has at least one connection.
Most Montreal pilgrims fly through Europe, the Gulf, or North Africa. Total travel time is normally 15 to 20 hours, including your layover.
A few things worth knowing:
Ask us to fly you into Madinah and out of Jeddah, or the other way around. It saves you a five-hour road trip or a train ride you didn't need. We book it this way whenever the fares allow.
If you land in Jeddah first, you'll need to be in ihram before the plane crosses the miqat boundary. Crews usually announce it. Most people change at the connecting airport, since there isn't much room on board.
If you land in Madinah first, you have time. You enter ihram later at Dhul Hulayfah, about 11 kilometres outside the city, on your way to Makkah.
Winter departures need a buffer. Montreal gets snow and de-icing delays from December through March. We book connections with at least three hours between flights on winter departures. A tight connection you miss can cost you a day of your trip.
Jeddah airport to Makkah is roughly 90 kilometres, about an hour and a half by road. Madinah to Makkah is about 450 kilometres — the Haramain high-speed train covers it in around two and a half hours.
Umrah Visa for Canadian Passport Holders
Canadian passport holders have it easier than most. You have two routes:
The Saudi eVisa: Apply online, get approved in a few days, and it's valid for a year with multiple entries. You can perform Umrah on it. Most of our Montreal clients use this.
A dedicated Umrah visa: We process this for you as part of your package if the eVisa isn't the right fit for your situation.
What you need either way:
- A Canadian passport valid for at least six months past your travel date
- A recent passport-sized photo on a white background
- Proof of your meningitis ACWY vaccination
- Confirmed flights and hotel bookings (your package covers this)

Vaccination and Health Requirements
Saudi Arabia requires proof of a quadrivalent meningococcal (ACWY) vaccine for everyone aged one and up. Get it at least 10 days before you fly — a certificate dated any later will be refused.
In Quebec, you can get this through your CLSC, a pharmacy, or a travel health clinic. Book early. Clinics fill up in the weeks before Ramadan every single year.
Bring any prescription medication in its original labelled packaging, along with a copy of the prescription.
Makkah and Madinah get very hot from May through September, regularly above 40°C. If you're travelling with elderly parents or you have a heart condition, diabetes, or trouble in heat, pick a winter departure. It's a genuine safety issue, not a comfort preference.
When Should You Go?
Umrah can be performed any day of the year. That's the main difference from Hajj, which only happens on fixed dates.
Ramadan carries the most reward, and it's also the most crowded and most expensive time of year. Book six to eight months ahead. See our Ramadan Umrah Packages for the specific Ashra options.
December and January work well for Montreal families. The weather in Saudi Arabia is mild, the school break lines up, and you get out of the Quebec winter for a week. Our December Umrah Packages fill up by October.
September to November is our quietest and cheapest window. The Haram is calmer, hotel rates drop, and you can complete tawaf without a crowd. If your dates are flexible, go now.
Avoid the Hajj season (roughly two weeks around Dhul Hijjah). Umrah visas are restricted and the cities are at capacity.
Choosing Your Hotel
Star rating matters less than distance. A 3-star hotel 200 metres from the Haram beats a 5-star hotel two kilometres away, especially if you're praying five times a day and travelling with older parents.
What our star ratings mean in practice:
3-star: Clean, simple rooms, usually a 10 to 20 minute walk to the Haram or a short shuttle ride. Fine if you plan to spend most of your time in the mosque anyway.
4-star: Closer in, better rooms, usually breakfast included. This is the sweet spot for most families.
5-star: Inside the Haram complex or right beside it. Some rooms look out over the Kaaba. Worth it if walking is difficult for anyone in your group.
Ask us for the actual hotel name and the walking distance in metres before you pay. We'll give you both. Any agency that won't is hiding something.
Travelling with Family, Elders, or Without a Mahram
Elderly parents: Book 4-star or 5-star and stay close to the Haram. We can arrange wheelchair assistance at Montréal–Trudeau, at your connecting airport, and in Saudi Arabia. Tell us when you book, not at the airport.
Young children: Airlines and hotels have different rules on infant fares and extra beds. Give us their ages and we'll price it properly instead of surprising you later.
Women travelling without a mahram: Saudi Arabia now permits women to perform Umrah without a male guardian. Rules do get updated, so we confirm the current position for your travel dates before you pay a deposit. We can also place you with a group of other women travelling from Canada.
Groups from your mosque: We run group bookings for Montreal and Laval congregations. Groups of 10 or more get better rates and a dedicated coordinator. Call us to discuss.
What Happens During Umrah?
The rites themselves take about two to four hours if the Haram isn't packed. During Ramadan or the last ten nights, expect much longer.
There are four steps:
- Ihram: Enter the state of ihram at or before the miqat. Men wear two white unstitched cloths. Women wear ordinary modest clothing.
- Tawaf: Circle the Kaaba seven times, starting and finishing at the Black Stone.
- Sa'i: Walk seven lengths between the hills of Safa and Marwah.
- Halq or Taqsir: Men shave their heads or trim their hair. Women trim a fingertip's length.
