What Is Not Included?

Saudi visa fee. Saudi Arabia sets this amount and changes it from time to time. We quote you the current fee in writing before you pay anything.
Meals other than breakfast. Budget roughly CAD $25 to $40 a day per person for food in Makkah and Madinah.
Travel insurance. Not required by us, strongly recommended by us. Medical care in Saudi Arabia is not free for visitors.
Ihram clothing, prayer mats, and personal items.
Excess baggage. Airlines are strict on the Jeddah route. Check your allowance before you pack Zamzam containers.
Optional private transport if you want a car rather than a shared coach.

Flights from Toronto Pearson

Most Umrah itineraries from Toronto involve one connection. Common routings go through Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, or Cairo, and land in either Jeddah or Madinah. Total travel time is usually somewhere between 16 and 22 hours depending on your layover.

A few things worth knowing before you book:

Landing in Madinah first is often easier: You perform your Umrah later in the trip, after you have slept off the jet lag. Many first-timers find this far more manageable than arriving in Jeddah and going straight into ihram.

Short layovers are not always a bargain: A 90-minute connection in Doha with a family and four suitcases is stressful. We will tell you honestly if a cheaper routing is a bad idea for your group.

Winter departures from Pearson get delayed due to Snow falling: If your budget is tight in January or February, we will suggest an itinerary with more buffer.

Tell us who is travelling and we will pick the routing that suits them, not the one with the best margin.

How Far Are the Hotels from the Haram?

"Walking distance" means different things to different agencies. Here is what it means with us.

5-star and 5-star deluxe: typically within 100 to 300 metres of the Haram gates. Often connected to the mosque courtyard directly.
4-star and 4-star deluxe: usually 300 to 700 metres. A five to ten minute walk.
3-star and 3-star deluxe: usually 700 metres to 1.5 km, with a shuttle running to the Haram.

If someone in your group has trouble walking or uses a wheelchair, tell us at the enquiry stage. Distance matters more than star rating for those travellers, and we will steer you to the right property rather than the most expensive one.

Umrah Visa for Canadian Residents

Canadian passport holders and Canadian permanent residents can get a Saudi visa that permits Umrah. There are a few routes to it, and the rules do change, so we handle this in-house rather than leaving you to guess.

Passport valid at least six months from your travel date
A recent passport-style photo with a white background
Proof of your status in Canada if you are not a Canadian citizen
Vaccination records where required

When to Go from Toronto

September to November: Our pick for most families. The weather in Saudi Arabia has cooled off, crowds are moderate, and flight prices from Pearson are at their lowest.

Ramadan: Spiritually the most sought-after time, and priced accordingly. The last ten nights are the most expensive and most crowded period of the entire year. If you want them, book at least six months out. Our Ramadan Umrah packages sell through quickly.

Summer: Cheapest flights, but daytime temperatures in Makkah regularly pass 45°C. Fine for young, healthy travellers. Hard on elderly parents and small children.

Around Hajj: Saudi Arabia pauses Umrah visas for a period each year during the Hajj season. The exact dates shift with the Islamic calendar. Call us before you set your heart on a date in that window.

Travelling with Elderly Parents or Young Children

A large share of our Toronto bookings are three-generation family trips. What we have learned from arranging them:

Book the closest hotel you can afford: For an elderly traveller, 200 metres versus 800 metres is the difference between praying at the Haram five times a day and praying twice.
Ask about wheelchair access at the Haram: Wheelchairs are available on site, and there are dedicated floors for tawaf. We will explain how it works before you go.
Do not overbook the ziyarat: A packed sightseeing schedule exhausts people. Two half-days is plenty.
Bring your own medication with prescriptions: Do not rely on finding it there.

Tell us the ages and mobility of everyone in your group when you enquire. It changes what we recommend.

First Time Performing Umrah

If you have never done it, the logistics are simpler than they look, but nobody wants to feel lost at the miqat.

Umrah itself takes about two to four hours to perform — ihram, tawaf, sa'i, and then cutting or shaving the hair. Most people complete it on their first day or the morning after arrival. The rest of your package is time to pray, rest, and visit.

How to Check an Umrah Agency Is Legitimate in Ontario

Umrah is an emotional purchase, and that attracts bad actors. Every year GTA families lose deposits to operators who take payment and disappear. Here is how to protect yourself, whether or not you book with us.

Check the TICO registration: Any company selling travel to Ontario residents must be registered with the Travel Industry Council of Ontario. You can look up any registration number on TICO's public register in under a minute. Ours is 50018801, held by Harmain Travel Limited, operating as Qiblatain. If an agency cannot give you a number, walk away.
Understand the Travel Compensation Fund: Because we are TICO-registered, Ontario customers are covered by the provincial compensation fund if an airline or supplier fails. An unregistered operator gives you nothing.
Ask for the hotel name in writing: Not "4-star near Haram." The actual property name, so you can look it up on a map yourself.
Never pay by e-transfer to a personal account. Legitimate agencies invoice properly and accept traceable payment.
Ask what happens if your visa is refused: Get the answer in writing before you pay.
