What is an Islamic holiday package?

An Islamic holiday package is a travel package planned around the needs of Muslim travellers. The food is halal. The hotel serves no alcohol and has a quiet place to pray. The tour guide stops for salah instead of rushing past it. Many hotels also offer women-only pool hours or a private spa.

Some people call these halal holiday packages, halal tours, or Muslim-friendly holidays. They all mean the same thing. It's a normal holiday — you still see the sights, eat well, and take photos. You just don't have to spend the trip checking food labels or looking for somewhere to pray.

That last part is the real difference. On a regular tour, a lot of your energy goes into small worries. Was that chicken actually halal? Is there time to pray before the bus leaves? Is the hotel bar going to be loud tonight? On a proper Islamic holiday package, someone else has already handled all of it.

Where can you go? Our five destinations

We picked these five countries because they work well for Canadian travellers. Halal food is easy to find. Mosques are everywhere. And the flight routes from Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Ottawa are reasonable.

Turkey — mosques, history, and the Cappadocia balloons

Turkey is where most first-time travellers start, and for good reason. Istanbul alone holds the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and Süleymaniye Mosque. Nearly every restaurant is halal. You'll hear the adhan five times a day.

Cappadocia is the other half of the trip — cave hotels, rock valleys, and the famous sunrise balloon flights.

Egypt — the pyramids and old Cairo

Egypt gives you two very different things in one short trip. There's Giza — the pyramids and the Sphinx. And there's Islamic Cairo, with Al-Azhar Mosque, the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As, and the Khan el-Khalili market.

Our Egypt packages are the cheapest we provide. A two-day trip starts at CAD$250, which makes it a strong add-on if you're already flying through the region.

Jordan — Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Red Sea

Jordan is quieter than the others, and that's the appeal. Petra is carved into rose-coloured rock. Wadi Rum is open desert where you sleep in a Bedouin camp under the stars. Aqaba sits on the Red Sea for the last couple of days.

There's also real Islamic heritage here that most people miss — the tombs of several Sahaba, and the Cave of the Seven Sleepers.

Morocco — Marrakech, Fez, and the imperial cities

Morocco is a country where being Muslim is simply normal. Almost all meat is halal by default, so you're not hunting for certified restaurants. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca sits on the Atlantic and is one of the largest in the world.

Our seven-day trip covers four cities — Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, and Fez. Fez holds the Qarawiyyin, often called the oldest continuously running university anywhere.

The UAE is the easiest halal holiday you can take. Prayer rooms are in every mall and airport. Halal food is the default. Everything is new, clean, and simple to get around.

Sharjah is the one people skip and shouldn't — it's the cultural capital, it's dry, and it's much more family-focused than Dubai. Abu Dhabi has the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is worth the trip on its own.

Why flights are separate: Airfare from Canada swings a lot depending on your city, your dates, and how far ahead you book. Bundling it into a headline price would mean quoting a high number to cover the worst case. We'd rather show you the land cost honestly and quote your flights separately. The halal food question, answered properly

"Halal-friendly" is a phrase some agencies use to mean "we found a vegetarian option." That's not what we do.

On our packages, the hotels serve halal breakfast. The restaurants we take groups to are halal. In Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, and the UAE, that's the normal standard rather than a special request — which is exactly why we chose these five countries.

If your family has extra needs — no seafood, allergies, a specific certification standard — tell us when you book. We'll write it into the file and confirm it with the ground operator before you fly. Don't leave it to the day you arrive.

Prayer, mosques, and how we build the day

Every itinerary is planned around salah, not squeezed in beside it.

• Hotels are picked to be near a masjid where possible
• Guides know the prayer times and build stops around them
• Coach travel days include a prayer stop
• Jumu'ah is protected — no tours scheduled through Friday prayer
• Major mosques are on the itinerary as visits, not just photo stops

If you follow a particular madhhab and have questions about combining prayers while travelling, ask us. We'd rather answer it before you book than have you worry on the plane.

Travelling with family: what parents actually ask

Are the hotels alcohol-free? In Sharjah, yes across the board. Elsewhere we book hotels without a bar in the lobby wherever we can. If this matters to you, say so when you book and we'll confirm the specific property in writing.

Is there privacy for women? Some hotels offer women-only pool hours or a private spa. This varies by property and season, so we check per booking. Ask and we'll tell you exactly what your hotel offers rather than giving you a general answer.

Can we bring young kids? Yes. The UAE and Turkey packages handle young children best — short transfers, good hotels, plenty to do. Egypt and Jordan involve more driving.

What about elderly parents? Also yes, but the destination matters. Dubai and Istanbul are comfortable. Petra and Cappadocia involve real walking on uneven ground. Tell us who's travelling and we'll steer you right.

Can we get connecting rooms? Usually. Request it at booking, not at check-in.

You're already flying to Saudi Arabia. That's a long trip and a big expense. Many of the routes from Canada connect through Istanbul, Dubai, or Cairo anyway. So instead of sitting in an airport for six hours on the way home, you can spend three days seeing the city.

A few practical notes for Canadian families:

• March, April, and October are the sweet spot for Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco. Good weather, fewer crowds.
• December and January are best for the UAE. It's also our winter, which makes the contrast worth it.
• March break and summer holidays book up early. If you need those dates, book three to four months ahead.
• Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are popular and prices climb. Book early.
• Ramadan changes the feel of a trip. Daytime hours are shorter and some restaurants close until Maghrib, but the evenings are wonderful. Some travellers love it. Ask us before you book so you know what to expect.

Yes. Every itinerary is planned around salah. Coach days include prayer stops, and we never schedule tours through Jumu'ah.

Can I combine a holiday with Umrah?

Yes, and it's popular. Many Canadian routes connect through Istanbul, Dubai, or Cairo, so adding a few days costs far less than a separate trip. We can book both together.

Which destination is best for young children?
